From Seeds to Solutions: The Journey of a Designer
A former professional counselor turned designer, blending empathy, creativity, and a passion for storytelling to craft meaningful and human-centered experiences.
The Planting of Seeds
From the moment I could hold a pencil, creativity has been at the heart of who I am. As a child, I spent hours meticulously sketching realistic dolphins and horses, pouring my passion into every detail. My love for art flourished in school, where I thrived in Art class and earned awards that, at the time, felt like small victories. Looking back now, I see those moments as the seeds of something greater—a foundation for a life shaped by creativity.
But creativity wasn’t the only force driving me. My natural empathy and deep care for others drew me toward helping those around me. Together, these qualities have shaped a journey of growth, resilience, and discovery. What started as a love for art has grown into a career where my creative instincts and empathetic nature fuel every project I take on.
Following Two Callings
As a preteen, I dreamt of becoming a Graphic Designer. I envisioned a future filled with bold ideas, innovative designs, and a career at Full Sail College in Florida, where I grew up. My passion for art was undeniable, but during my teenage years, a new calling began to take shape. I realized my deep empathy and ability to connect with others could make a real difference in people’s lives.
This shift led me down the path of counseling, where I could use my care for others to help them heal and grow. Even as I focused on this work, my creative side remained a constant companion. I freelanced in graphic design and photography, taking on projects for friends, family, and acquaintances whenever I could.
For my life, I balanced these two callings: creativity and empathy. But as time went on, I began to see that my true potential lay in combining them. I wasn’t meant to choose one over the other—I was meant to create, to innovate, and to design with a purpose that uplifts others.
Breaking Outside of the Box
For years, I poured myself into counseling, working tirelessly to guide clients toward healing. I was dependable, determined, and steadfast, always putting their needs first. But beneath that dedication, I felt a growing ache—a longing for something different. Creativity had always been my refuge, my way of expressing myself, and I couldn’t ignore the pull any longer.
Burnout forced me to pause and reflect. I realized that while I was good at being a counselor, I was truly thriving when I was creating. Whether designing logos, capturing life through photography, or building something from scratch, I felt alive. The turning point came when I recognized the math of it all: creativity wasn’t just a passion—it was where my greatest strengths came together.
I took the leap, transitioning into Instructional Design. Now, I thrive in a fast-paced environment where I wow stakeholders with innovative solutions, managing tight deadlines and producing high-quality work. Each challenge I face reminds me of what I’m capable of: breaking out of the box, overcoming obstacles, and crafting a career that honors both my creativity and my empathy.
The Heart of an Overcomer
Life has shaped me into an overcomer. Through challenges big and small, I’ve learned to face obstacles with determination and turn them into opportunities for growth. One of the most defining moments of my journey was overcoming PTSD—a personal battle that not only strengthened me but also deepened my understanding of others. It inspired my work as a counselor, where I specialized in PTSD treatment and helped hundreds of clients navigate their own healing journeys.
My parents instilled in me a work ethic rooted in consistency and perseverance. Growing up, we were always encouraged to finish what we started, from sports seasons to personal goals. That foundation has carried me through every stage of my life, from balancing leadership and collaboration to mentoring others while managing my own workload.
I’m a paradox in the best way—I lead with empathy and energy, but I also execute with precision and focus. I am personable yet driven, a teammate who balances kindness with determination. I love connecting deeply with others and fostering a sense of inclusion, but I’m also the one who ensures the job gets done and done well. That balance, that drive, is the essence of who I am.
Designing the Future
As I look ahead, I see a future where creativity and innovation shape the world. My passion lies in designing solutions that make a difference—whether through instructional experiences or groundbreaking products. I’m ready to bring my empathy, determination, and vision to a team committed to creating the future.
About Me, Personally
Art has always been a core part of who I am. Looking back, I didn’t realize how special it was to receive so many awards for my artwork during my school years—but now, I see it as a reflection of the creativity that has always driven me. My artistic journey has taken many forms, from early art classes in college to my first job as a freelance photographer, which never felt like work—just pure fun.
Beyond art, I’ve always been drawn to movement and discipline. Growing up, my parents encouraged my siblings and me to stay active in sports, and while I tried many, horseback riding and jumping became my passion—something I still enjoy today.
I also love bringing people together. Whether organizing, leading, or speaking at community events, I find fulfillment in uniting diverse groups around a shared purpose. Creativity, connection, and curiosity fuel everything I do, and I bring that same energy into my work as a designer.
